Iceberg is close to the coast

Just 8 km from Macquarie Island, Australia, has discovered a huge iceberg 500 feet long and 50 high stunned the scientific community, he had never seen a mass of ice as far from the Antarctic Peninsula.

The large plate was photographed and sighted in the Pacific Ocean near Macquarie Island in Australia, puzzling scientists who were in this area.

"I've never seen anything like it. I just saw in the horizon a large floating island of ice, "narrated in turn by Britain's Times newspaper biologist Dean Miller, who was the first to see the iceberg about 8 km from the north-west of Macquarie Island.

According to investigators, the giant iceberg comes from the Antarctic Ross area. The ice island looks solid, but if it were to crumble could become a serious danger to the boats.

Macquarie Island is home to millions of seals, sea lions, penguins and seabirds. It is also a World Heritage Site because of its amazing marine life populations and plants. In this area we find one station of the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD, for its initials in English), whose scientists discovered the iceberg.
